RADICAL JEWELRY MAKEOVER
Gallery 2052 is wrapping up the Chicago Professional Artist iteration of Radical Jewelry Makeover, which has convened projects in communities globally since 2007. By drawing attention to the creativity and skills of local jewelry designers and revealing the stories behind our personal collections, RJM seeks to encourage reconsideration of consumption habits, raise awareness of and transform the sourcing of materials used in jewelry production. In the Fall of 2023, metalsmiths Nora McCarthy and Sarah Holden requested donations from the community of their unwanted jewelry of any quality, and then invited 28 local artists to subsequently 'mine' and transform these donated materials into fresh pieces of contemporary jewelry. The culminating exhibition of stellar works by these 28 Chicago-based professionals at Gallery 2052 closes August 10, 2024.
